This is the double-stick Two-Stage Lid Prop that Steinway & Sons has used on its entire grand piano line since converting from their single-stick lid prop. We make this part with a squared butt at the hinge end to conform to the brief straight section of rim where it attaches. The mortise for the hinge is provided, and the brass pivot screw is included.

This top stick is overly long at 33-3/4″. The rebuilder will trim it to length so that it forms a proper 90-degree angle with the lid when opened. VCP manufactures this part in maple-for-ebony, plain mahogany, and walnut. Note: this part is designed to be used on instruments originally equipped with a two-stage lid prop. Some alteration to this part or the candidate piano may be required when installing on a vintage instrument.
This is the single-stick Lid Prop that Steinway & Sons used on its entire grand piano line from the 1870s until their conversion to a two-stick prop. We make this part with the correct offset angle at the hinge end to conform to the rim curve, and the mortise for the hinge is also provided. This topstick is overly long at 36-3/4″. The rebuilder will trim it to length so that it forms a proper 90-degree angle with the lid when opened. VCP manufactures this part in maple-for-ebony, plain mahogany, ribbon mahogany, walnut, and Brazilian rosewood (on a mahogany core).

VCP’s Square Sketch 380 Lyre Prop Sticks duplicate those used on Steinway’s product line from the mid-1920s until recently. Crisply square and including the handsome mid-length detail, they are furnished overly long, to be custom trimmed to fit the piano by the rebuilder. The lower diameter is appropriate to the rear of the pedal box, and the upper end fits into the square keybed pocket holes. We make these sticks, sold in pairs, in maple-for-ebony, mahogany, and walnut.
VCP’s Round VictorianLyre Prop Sticks duplicate those used on Steinway’s product line from the 1870s until about 1920. Precisely turned and accurate in every detail, they are furnished overly long, to be custom trimmed to fit the piano by the rebuilder. The diameter is appropriate to both the lyre pedal box and keybed pocket holes.
We make these parts, sold in pairs, in maple-for-ebony and mahogany.
We refer to this as the “Logo-Style” Pedal Lyre, so named for its physical resemblance to the historic Steinway & Sons trademark. Virtually all model A through D grand pianos originally equipped with “Ice Cream Cone” legs utilized this carved pedal lyre. Vintage Case Parts has duplicated this component in clear soft maple, ready for ebonizing, and solid mahogany, so no faux-finishing is required.
This is our execution of Steinway’s ubiquitous Sketch 380 Pedal Lyre. This lyre, in one iteration or another, has been used on virtually every standard production case from around 1910 to the present. This case part is heavy and rugged. The two columns are tenoned and splined into pedal box and top plate, consistent with Steinway design, to render decades of dependable use. Steinway’s proprietary metal pedal faceplate and pivot assembly will drop right into this pedal box, and the three rear openings readily accept the pedal raviolis (cushions). All of Vintage Case Part’s dimensions are spot on, including the overall assembled height of 21”. The top plate is coved on the backside to permit use of modern adjustable pedal lift rods. We make this lyre in maple-for-ebony and solid mahogany.
Note: The fore/aft location of the mortise in the lyre’s top block that accommodates the male locking cleat moved somewhat over many decades of Steinway’s production, and across all models of Steinway grand pianos. The rebuilder may have to move the circular mortise provided by Vintage Case Parts to ensure the correct location of our lyre on the bottom of the candidate piano. In this instance, the remains of our mortise may be filled as desired.

This is VCP’s carved “Ice Cream Cone” or “Flower Pot” leg. It was originally utilized on the model A. The leg used on models B through D at the time was quite similar, therefore this VCP offering will look at home on all vintage models A-D dating from the 1890s to about 1915. Vintage Case Parts offers this leg in maple, suitable for either ebony or natural finishes (with appropriate faux graining required by the refinisher). Every aspect of the original carving and fluting detail is precisely duplicated. The foot will accept either the original Steinway caster or modern replacements. The top is mortised to accept the locking cleat.

These are VCP’s Octagonal “Tulip” or “Tiffany” Legs. Steinway referred to these legs as Style 14. These legs appeared in the early 1900s on models A and B, and some early model Os. This detailed style has never been available to the trade. The VCP Octagonal legs feature accurate replication of the carved volutes on the capital. The octagonal leg column and its detailed foot are crisp and clean. This leg incorporates a pocket for the attaching cleat and a caster recess to accommodate modern supply house caster sockets. We manufacture these legs in clear white poplar. These legs are not recommended for models C or D.

These are VCP’s Empire-Style Short Length Legs. Given the popularity of today’s “steam roller” casters on the concert stage as well as in the living room, this Empire Leg has been proportionally shortened to accept the European-style, extra large 3.5” diameter solid brass casters, Pianotek part #CRB-46A and B. From the caster mounting plateau upward this leg is identical in appearance and specification to our Standard Length Empire-Style Leg.

These are VCP’s Empire-Style Standard Length Legs. Steinway manufactured model A-D pianos in numerous ornate Empire appearances from the late-1800s to approximately WWI. Our offering incorporates elements from the most widely encountered iteration, conceding some minor reductions to control cost. A handsome part, this leg includes all the original fluting on the leg column and much of the design of the original capital. The foot of the leg column is exact in every respect and has the proper recess to partially conceal the caster, and the capital has both the recess for the mounting cleat and the locking cam wedge block on the backside. Either original Steinway or modern supply house casters may be employed. Made of maple, these legs are suitable for all A-D models.
