This
is VCPs "Scroll End" music desk, so named for the
carved volutes in the lower corners. Steinway used this desk on their ebony
and mahogany pianos from the 1890s until about 1915. We offer it in mahogany
(only); suitable for either natural or ebonized finishes. The desk fits
our Desk Frame Kit or the pianos original frame.

This is VCPs
"Arrow Point" music desk, so named for the detail in the
upper corners. Steinway used this desk on their ebony, mahogany and walnut
pianos from about 1910 until the 1940s. Though the current offering from
Steinway resembles this product, it lacks the original arrow corners and
overall crispness of the VCP product. We offer it in maple-for-ebony,
mahogany and walnut. This desk fits our Desk Frame Kit or the pianos
original frame.

Music Desk Frame Spanning Rails are to be used with our Rounded-Front
End Panels, or they may be employed with the original Steinway units. Typically
the rear rail glues in the mortises on end panels, the front rail screws
in through the male dovetail from beneath. The detail of the veining in
the front rail that supports the players sheet music is exquisite.
Sold in pairs, we manufacture these vintage parts in maple-for-ebony, mahogany,
and bubinga (for rosewood pianos).

Music Desk Frame End Panels are designed to be used either with our
spanning rails or the pianos original rails. Steinway used this rounded-front
design from the 1870s until about 1920 on all models. We manufacture this
part, sold in pairs, in maple-for-ebony, mahogany, and Brazilian rosewood.
VCP manufactures this product in three widths: narrow, standard, and wide.
85-note instruments use the narrow dimension, virtually all 88-note models
A, B, S, L, M and O employ the standard panel, and 88-note models C and
D require the wide dimension. Please specify when ordering. If in doubt,
please furnish a width dimension of the inside of the rim along with the
pianos model and serial number.
Narrow: 8" wide by 12" long
Standard: 9" wide by 13" long
Wide: 10" wide by 14" long

Music Desk Frame Kit, pictured here assembled, in Brazilian rosewood.
Steinway used this frame style from the 1870s until about 1920 on all models.
The kit consists of four components: two spanning rails and two rounded-front
end panels. The rails tenon and dovetail into the end panels per original
Steinway joinery design. The rebuilder trims the unit in width to fit the
piano, and then rabbets the ends to accept the rim runners. Both tasks are
easily performed before the kit is assembled.
VCP offers this kit in maple-for-ebony, mahogany, and Brazilian rosewood.
The kit is available in three widths: narrow, standard, and wide. Refer
to the Music Desk End Panel product description for a complete explanation.
Narrow: 52" wide by 12" deep (for 85-note Steinways)
Standard: 54" wide by 13" deep (for most Steinways)
Wide: 56" wide by 14" deep (for 88-note C&D Steinways)
All frame kits (end panels) are a nominal 1" thick

The VCP Keyslip
is available in maple, mottled mahogany, walnut, and rosewood. All profiles
including the thickness, height, ogee contour, and bottom bevel conform
exactly to vintage Steinway specifications. Unlike the current production
overly large replacement keyslip available from S&S, this part fits
vintage Steinways perfectly and looks right at home on the instrument.
The VCP keyslip is long enough for any model Steinway piano. The molding
is provided without any of the necessary keybed anchor pin drilling or
backside mortising at the cheek blocks - these operations are to be performed
by the restorer, custom fit to the candidate piano.

These
are VCPs Recessed Panel Spade Legs. Steinway used these legs
product-wide on models A-D from about 1910 until the 40s. This detailed
style has not been available to the trade from the original manufacturer
for at least six decades.
The VCP legs have truly recessed panels on all facets and bracket, and incorporate
a pocket for the attaching cleat, a caster recess, and the locking cam wedge
block on the backside. Either original Steinway or modern supply house casters
may be employed.
We manufacture these legs for models A-D in solid maple, solid mahogany,
and solid walnut. With these offerings, no faux-finishing is required of
the rebuilder for natural-finish instruments.

This is VCP's carved
"Ice Cream Cone" or "Flower Pot" leg for models
A through D. Steinway utilized this leg on nearly all their pianos of
6' or greater length manufactured from the 1880s through about 1915. Vintage
Case Parts offers this leg in maple, suitable for either ebony or natural
finishes (with appropriate faux graining required by the refinisher).
Every aspect of the original carving and fluting detail is precisely duplicated.
The foot will accept either the original Steinway caster or modern replacements.
The top is mortised to accept the locking cleat.

We refer to this as
the "logo-style" pedal lyre, so named for its physical
resemblance to the historic Steinway & Sons trademark. Virtually all
model A through D grand pianos originally equipped with "Ice Cream
Cone" legs utilized this carved pedal lyre. Vintage Case Parts has
duplicated this component in clear soft maple, ready for ebonizing or
faux finishing to render a mahogany or rosewood appearance.
The top block is mortised for the male locking cleat, and the fully enclosed
pedal compartment is dimensioned to receive the heavy metal mounting plate
and its three pedals (no hardware provided). Additionally, the top block
is coved on the rear edge to provide clearance for the locking nuts associated
with modern pedal rods of adjustable length. A pedal rod bushing block
and pedal box bottom plate are supplied with the lyre body.

Lyre Prop Sticks duplicate those used on Steinways product line
from the 1870s until about 1920. Precisely turned and accurate in every
detail, they are furnished overly long, to be custom trimmed to fit the
piano by the rebuilder. The diameter is appropriate to both the lyre and
keybed pocket holes.
We make these parts, sold in pairs, in maple-for-ebony and mahogany.

Vintage
Case Parts provides solid brass hinges for attaching the Music Desk
to the Desk Frame. Until now, the specific size of this hinge has been very
difficult to locate within the rebuilding supply business. Our hinge will
fit the original Steinway mortise as well as the mortise on the VCP spanning
rail.
The forward spanning rail on the VCP Desk Frame has three hinge mortises.
When using the original Steinway rail in rebuilding a desk frame, be apprised
some of these factory rails have four hinge mortises, others have three.
Be certain of the required number of hinges for your project when ordering.
