This is the double-stick Two-Stage Lid Prop that Steinway & Sons has used on its entire grand piano line since converting from their single-stick lid prop. We make this part with a squared butt at the hinge end to conform to the brief straight section of rim where it attaches. The mortise for the hinge is provided, and the brass pivot screw is included.
This top stick is overly long at 33-3/4″. The rebuilder will trim it to length so that it forms a proper 90-degree angle with the lid when opened. VCP manufactures this part in maple-for-ebony, plain mahogany, and walnut. Note: this part is designed to be used on instruments originally equipped with a two-stage lid prop. Some alteration to this part or the candidate piano may be required when installing on a vintage instrument.
